Angela's Story

2022 Benefit Recipient is Ms. Angela Lockett.

Angela Lockett, 51 years of age, native of Limestone County; married to Jerran Spears. Angela is employed by MWR/Redstone Arsenal Rd. CDC as an Infant Lead Teacher. She has not been able to actively work since March 2020.

Angela was diagnosed October 2019 with Multiple Myeloma, a rare blood cancer of the plasma cells.

The diagnosis caught Angela completely off guard as any cancer diagnosis does for anyone. She was experiencing severe tiredness and never imagined cancer was the outcome of this only symptom. She started chemotherapy treatment in December of 2019 and treated until April of 2020. Most of the cancerous cells were destroyed with the treatment. Angela was scheduled for a Stem Cell Transplant, but due to the pandemic of COVID 19, her doctors elected not to proceed with procedures due to severely immune compromise.

April 2021, Angela had a bone marrow biopsy and was cleared to proceed with the stem cell transplant. June of 2021 she begin the process for Autologous Stem Cell Transplant. July 12 she underwent the procedure at Sarah Cannon Cancer Research Hospital in Nashville, TN. Angela is currently home recuperating.

Prior to Angela’s diagnosis; years prior, in June of 2010, her daughter, Dymon, age 6 at the time, was diagnosed by St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, with a rare blood disorder, Glanzmann’s Thrombasthenia. Through the adversity and difficult times; Angela encourages everyone to complete routine check-ups with physician and stay on top of any health concerns as minor as they seem to be.  She states she will continue to trust the process, his plan and purpose with a praise in my heart and wants to be a beacon of light and ray of hope while possibly helping someone along the way.
